Terms of service
Last updated 4 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Tomas Johnny(“we”), an independent developer who runs Shadowly. By using the service you accept them. If you do not, please don’t use it.
What Shadowly is
A tool for practising a language by shadowing: you supply an audio recording, split it into phrases, loop them, and speak them back. The audio processing happens in your browser. An account synchronises your phrase splits between your devices; a subscription adds automatic phrase detection, your file library, whole-session MP3 exports and removes advertising.
Your audio, and copyright
You are responsible for having the right to use the audio you practise with.Podcasts, films, audiobooks and songs are usually someone’s copyright, and what you may do with them privately varies by country. Shadowly is a tool; deciding what you may lawfully put into it is yours.
We never receive your audio or your recordings, so we cannot host, distribute or moderate them. Nothing you practise with is published by this service or visible to anyone else.
Your account
Sign-in is by emailed link, so keep access to your email address secure — anyone who can read your inbox can sign in as you. Tell us at tomasjohnny94@gmail.com if you think your account has been used by someone else. One account is for one person.
The free plan
The editor works without an account and without payment: splitting, looping, speed control, recording yourself, comparing takes, exporting each phrase as a file, and syncing between devices once you sign in. We intend to keep it that way. No advertising is shown at present; if that changes, a subscription will remove it.
Subscription, payment and cancellation
- Subscriber access is bought in advance for a fixed period — 1, 6 or 12 months — and paid in stablecoins (USDC or USDT). The price and the length are shown before you pay.
- Nothing renews automatically and nothing is ever taken from your wallet on a schedule. There is nothing to cancel: when the period you bought ends, paid features simply switch off and your account returns to the free plan. Everything you have made stays where it is.
- Buying another period while you still have time left adds to it rather than replacing it. Your end date is always shown on your account page.
- Access starts when the payment settles on the network, which is usually a few minutes. If you send less than the invoice asks for, we cannot start the period — write to us and we will sort it out.
- Payments on a blockchain cannot be reversed by us. We cannot claw back a transaction, and we cannot recover funds sent to the wrong address or on the wrong network. Follow the instructions on the payment page exactly.
- We do not refund part of a period as a matter of course. If something went wrong, or you paid for something you didn’t mean to buy, write to tomasjohnny94@gmail.comand we’ll put it right. Where the law where you live gives you a right to cancel and be refunded, that right stands regardless of what this paragraph says.
- A price change never affects a period you have already bought. It applies only to periods bought after the change.
Fair use
Please don’t:
- break into, overload or probe the service, or try to reach other people’s data;
- resell access, or share one account between many people;
- use it to process material you have no right to use.
Availability, and where your work lives
We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted. We may change or withdraw features, and we will give notice of anything that materially removes something you are paying for.
Your recordings are stored in your browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browsing data deletes them, and browsers may discard local storage when a device is short of space. We cannot recover them. Export anything you would miss.
Liability
Shadowly is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost recordings, lost practice data, lost time, or any indirect loss. Where we are liable, that liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose.
Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be removed by agreement.
Ending it
You may stop using Shadowly and delete your account at any time by writing to tomasjohnny94@gmail.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and where it is reasonable to do so we will say why first.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and if a change materially affects subscribers we will email them before it takes effect.
